Long time listener first time caller. a lot of people claim to have moved their battery to the trunk but no one has posted a walkthrough that i know of. (at least lately) so i'm going to show you people how i did it with help from my local saab mechanic (Valet Motors on Stone Ave in Tucson).
The first thing I did was gobble up all the information I could about how to do it and if it was possible. That led me to the gathering of resources stage. I obtained an Optima red top spiral cell battery with mounting posts on the top and the side (although it turns out the top mount would have worked), thirty-five feet of two-gauge welding cable, and one Ford starter solenoid. Everything else I used was graciously donated by my mechanic, and it includes various screws, bolts, wiring, doodads, and brackets.
I planned on doing it all this morning, but it took us the entire day, so plan on frustrating delays.
I first emptied my trunk and removed the floor-and-trap-door (that piece of plywood). My donut spare went flat long ago and I use a full-size spare, so I decided to mount the battery where the donut was after determining that it was the deepest part of the trunk. (Plus there is a drain hole there for a teeny bit of ventilation).
